Womanizer Premium 2 vs LELO Sona 2 Cruise: Comprehensive Comparison
On this page
The Womanizer Premium 2 and the LELO Sona 2 Cruise are the two highest-rated external devices in our air-pulse ranking, and they are engineered around different priorities: automation and run time for the Premium 2, constant sonic power for the Sona 2 Cruise. This comparison is based on manufacturer specifications and the physics of each design.

Quick verdict
Choose the Womanizer Premium 2 if…
- you want Smart Silence, which keeps the device in standby until it is almost touching the skin;
- you want the longest run time of the two (up to 240 minutes, according to Womanizer);
- you would like an Autopilot mode that varies intensity for you.
Choose the LELO Sona 2 Cruise if…
- you prefer a deeper, stronger sensation from sonic waves;
- you want power that stays steady under firmer pressure (Cruise Control);
- you value a compact one-piece body (125 g) that is simple to clean, and twelve settings.
Both are rechargeable, waterproof devices with body-safe silicone (IPX7 for the Premium 2, no IP rating stated by LELO). The Premium 2 ranks first in our air-pulse ranking (4.6/5) for its control, automatic features and battery life; the Sona 2 Cruise is second (4.5/5) and the better choice if you prefer a deeper sonic sensation.
Specifications side by side
Values from manufacturer data and published product documentation. Womanizer publishes no noise level for the Premium 2, and LELO states a maximum for the Sona 2 Cruise; run times are manufacturer-stated and vary with intensity.
Technology: Autopilot vs Cruise Control
Both devices have an “automatic” feature, but they solve different problems.
Womanizer Premium 2: Pleasure Air, Autopilot and Smart Silence
The Premium 2 uses Womanizer’s Pleasure Air technology: a small chamber behind a soft silicone nozzle creates rhythmic changes in air pressure, so stimulation is transmitted through the air pocket rather than by direct vibration. Autopilot 2.0 varies the intensity automatically within one of three ranges (Soft, Medium or Intense), for people who prefer not to adjust settings by hand. Smart Silence keeps the device in standby until it is almost touching the skin, which avoids unnecessary noise between uses.
LELO Sona 2 Cruise: sonic waves and Cruise Control
LELO describes the Sona 2 Cruise as using sonic waves rather than suction, designed to reach beyond the surface of the skin. Any small motor tends to slow down when it meets resistance, so pressing a device more firmly can reduce its output. Cruise Control is designed to compensate for this and keep power steady under firmer pressure, rather than letting it drop. It is a power regulation feature, not an automatic programme: you still choose the intensity.
In short, Autopilot changes the intensity for you, while Cruise Control keeps the intensity you chose. If you want hands-off variety, the Premium 2 has the edge; if you want consistent strength under pressure, the Sona 2 Cruise does.
Ergonomics and handling
The Sona 2 Cruise is compact and rounded, designed to rest in the palm; its one-piece shape (112 × 55 × 51 mm, 125 g according to LELO) is easy to hold at different angles. The Premium 2 has a longer, curved handheld body with the stimulation head at one end. Both rely on a few buttons for intensity and modes (twelve settings on the Sona 2 Cruise); the Premium 2’s automatic features mean fewer adjustments during use.
The sensation differs as much as the shape. Pressure waves (Premium 2) are often described as gentler and more indirect; sonic waves (Sona 2 Cruise) as deeper and more intense. The pressure-wave sensation does not suit everyone, and neither does a stronger one: if you are unsure, start at the lowest setting.
Acoustic discretion
Womanizer publishes no noise level for the Premium 2, on its product page or in its manual. LELO states a maximum of 60 dB for the Sona 2 Cruise, reached at its highest settings and comparable to a normal conversation; lower settings are quieter, but LELO publishes no figure for them. Without a figure for the Premium 2, we cannot say which one is quieter in use. Smart Silence does give the Premium 2 one practical advantage: it stays in standby whenever it is not in contact with the skin. Both devices sound quieter in use than on a table, because soft tissue and bedding absorb part of the sound. For the physics behind these figures, see our noise and decibel guide.
Materials, waterproofing and care
- Materials: both use body-safe, non-porous silicone on the parts that touch the skin; LELO adds an ABS body for the Sona 2 Cruise, while Womanizer lists body-safe silicone for the whole Premium 2. Learn what to look for in our guide to body-safe silicone and materials.
- Waterproofing: the Premium 2 is rated IPX7, which allows temporary immersion; LELO describes the Sona 2 Cruise as completely waterproof, without an IP rating. Both can be rinsed thoroughly.
- Hygiene design: the Premium 2’s head can be removed to clean underneath, and two sizes are included. The Sona 2 Cruise has no detachable parts, leaving fewer joints where residue can collect.
- Charging: the Premium 2 charges through magnetic charging pins with the supplied USB cable (about 120 minutes for a full charge) and the Sona 2 Cruise the supplied USB charging cord (about 2 hours for a full charge, according to LELO); on both, keep the charging point clean and dry before charging.
- Lubricant: use a water-based lubricant with both; silicone-based lubricants can degrade silicone surfaces over time.
Where they rank

Frequently asked questions
Is the LELO Sona 2 Cruise an air-pulse device?
No. LELO describes it as using sonic waves rather than suction or air pressure. It is often compared with air-pulse devices because both are designed for external, largely indirect stimulation.
Which one is quieter?
We cannot say on a figure: Womanizer publishes no noise level for the Premium 2, while LELO states a maximum of 60 dB for the Sona 2 Cruise. The Premium 2’s Smart Silence keeps it in standby when the head is not in contact with the skin.
Can I use either device in the shower?
Both are described as waterproof by their manufacturers: the Premium 2 is rated IPX7, which covers temporary immersion, and LELO mentions the bath or shower for the Sona 2 Cruise without stating an IP rating. Neither is designed for prolonged use underwater. Do not charge them while wet.
